OECD Economic Surveys
Thailand has made impressive economic and social progress over several decades. However, the COVID-19 crisis has interrupted this progress. Thanks to its sound macroeconomic policy framework, Thailand was well placed to respond rapidly to the sharp economic downturn. Nevertheless, achieving high-income country status will require, in addition to a strong recovery programme, a set of policy reforms focused on productivity growth and human capital accumulation. Thailand has made remarkable progress in expanding access to education, and the share of highly educated workers has increased significantly. Nevertheless, because of skills mismatches, substantial labour shortages have prevailed in a range of occupations and industries, which makes it important to improve vocational education and adult training programmes. As the demand for services has become important globally, Thailand has an opportunity to boost its exports of services, diversify its economic activity, and therefore become more resilient in the face of unexpected shocks. This would involve a focus on digital services and business-to-business services, which represent a large share of the value of manufacturing products. Focus on human capital, skills, digital technology, and high-value services would help Thailand resume strong economic growth and social progress after the COVID-19 crisis.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich VWL - Makro繹konomie, allgemein, Note: 1,5, Humboldt-Universit瓣t zu Berlin (Philosophische Fakult瓣t), Veranstaltung: Kritische Theorie der ?konomie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Was beinhaltet die Preis-Absatz-Funktion?

The Impact of Free Trade Agreements on Trade in Goods in the Agricultural Sector of the Republic of Korea. The KORUS FTA and the KOREU FTA
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Economics - Foreign Trade Theory, Trade Policy, grade: 2,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Chair of International Finance), course: Bachelorseminar: Trade Policy: Topics in Trade Policy, language: English, abstract: Over the last twenty years South Korea has signed several free trade agreements, including one with the U.S. in 2007 and one with the E.U. in 2010, which include tariff reductions. This thesis examines the impact of tariff reductions through free trade agreements on the value of imports of a single product representative for the agricultural sector through several regression analyses using a Poisson pseudo maximum likelihood estimator. Besides the two exporters of interest, the European Union and the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile and Australia complement the data set as reference value. This study starts with a literature review on existing literature on the two free trade agreements and the effects of free trade on the agricultural economy. In chapter three an independent investigation is conducted explaining the background to the two free trade agreements and, more generally, the effects of trade liberalization on the agricultural sector. The following chapter describes the course of the investigation with the explanation of the operational variables and the data using descriptive statistics. The data is used in an estimation model to evaluate the effect of a reduction of tariff rates according to an agreement on the value of imports. The individual components of the estimation model are explained in more detail, followed by a presentation of the results of the estimation using the STATA statistics program. The last chapter concludes the whole investigation, together with considerations on possible further studies of this topic.

The Soul of Classical Political Economy
James M. Buchanan, a prominent political economist of the 20th century and a Nobel laureate in economics, was a founding thinker of the public choice tradition and was instrumental in the reintroduction of politics into economic analysis. He was also an intellectual entrepreneur who developed new and innovative centers for research, graduate programs, and outlets for academic publication. Having taught at a variety of institutions, including the University of Tennessee, Florida State University, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech, he moved the Center for Study of Public Choice to George Mason University in 1983, where he remained for the rest of his academic career. After his passing in 2013, the Special Collections Research Center for the Mason University Libraries began to compile a formal archive, the James M. Buchanan Papers, documenting Buchanan's contributions to social science and his intellectual legacy. This volume, The Soul of Classical Political Economy: James M. Buchanan from the Archives, edited by Peter J. Boettke and Alain Marciano, provides a unique window into not only the man, the scholar, and the teacher, but also the fields of public choice and public economics that Buchanan advanced over his productive and esteemed career. The sections in this volume correspond to important themes for understanding Buchanan's views on political economy as a social philosophy. The editors illustrate Buchanan's views by using archival material-most of it original and previously unpublished-and offering context as a guide through the evolution of Buchanan's expansive scholarship that took place over roughly seven decades and spanned the fields of philosophy, politics, and economics. This volume is essential reading for anyone interested in Buchanan's work, in public choice theory, and in the continuing study of political economy.

It is methodologically different from existing economic theory, including the critical study of microeconomic foundations of macroeconomics. Human and environmental existence along with its multidisciplinary outlook of unity of knowledge between modernity, traditionalism, and socio-cultural values is emphasized in the treatment and cure of pandemic episodes. China’s Economic Arrival
This book is a collection of essays from MacroPolo, the think tank of the Paulson Institute in Chicago. The picture of China that emerges in this volume is one built from the ground up, across economics, politics, and technology. In addition, because China's rise has important global dimensions, a US-China section composed of two essays is included, which combine both a macro perspective and a view of the bilateral relationship through the history of a significant multinational firm. Finally, this volume will include an original introduction and conclusion by Damien Ma, editor and co-founder of MacroPolo. The essays are analytically driven and provide novel perspectives, context, granular data, and policy conclusions that get lost in the daily churn of news cycles. None of the essays in this volume focuses on national security or geopolitics. Rather, the volume grapples squarely with how China's domestic economic, political, and technological developments have transformed not only itself but also the world at large.
China's Growing Footprint in North Africa. Does soft power or hard power explain China's Growing?
Academic Paper from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, University of Bradford, course: contemporary security studies, language: English, abstract: This paper discusses the growing influence of China in North Afrcia. China has developed a profoundly entrenched stance as both a diplomatic partner and a rising investor in Africa. The interests of the Chinese in the continent covers not only natural resources but also pressing matters of trade, security, combating terrorism, and soft power which entails Confucius institutes and people to people exchanges. Chinese aid practices to Africa which encompasses Chinese medical fleet has been blown out of proportion by Western media to influence Africa to take caution and shield itself from China. The expression "soft power" has turned into a political theory for types of impact that are not "hard" in the sense of military power. As indicated by Joseph Nye's unique definition, a nation's hard power depends on intimidation, to a great extent a component of its military or monetary might. "Soft power", conversely, depends on fascination, emerging from the positive intrigue of a nation's way of life, political goals, and strategies just as a dynamic, free affable society.

The six monarchies on the Arabian Peninsula have devoted enormous sums to defense in past decades. Nevertheless, the gap between their expensive armaments and their capacity to deter aggression and/or project military strength has narrowed but little in that time. This Element takes a political economy approach and argues that structural factors inherent in the Gulf states' political systems prohibit civilian oversight of the defense sector and are responsible for this outcome. Lax restraints on military outlays, in turn, enable widespread corruption, lead to large-scale waste, and account for the purchasing of unneeded, unsuitable, and incompatible weapons systems. The Element explores the challenges caused by plummeting oil prices and the resulting budget cuts and considers the development of domestic defense industries in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, intended as a part of their economic diversification program. The setbacks of the Saudi-led coalition's on-going war in Yemen starkly illustrate the narrative.
CAREC Gender Strategy 2030
The CAREC Gender Strategy 2030 provides a regional approach to improving gender mainstreaming and strengthening the equal access of men and women to economic opportunities in five operational clusters. The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) member countries face common challenges to improving gender equality and women?s empowerment. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic also aggravated existing inequalities. This document complements national plans in line with the CAREC 2030 strategic framework?s road map to gender mainstreaming in (i) economic and financial stability, (ii) trade, tourism, and economic corridors, (iii) infrastructure and economic connectivity, (iv) agriculture and water, and (v) human development.
